As a traveler who’s stayed in many hotels across Japan, this place stood out. First of all, the room size was a pleasant surprise—much more spacious than the typical Japanese hotel room. There was plenty of space to open luggage, relax, and actually feel comfortable staying more than a night or two. One of the biggest highlights was the on-site tattoo-friendly onsen, which is not easy to find in Japan. The facilities were excellent, with both indoor and outdoor hot baths, plus a sauna perfect after a long day of walking and sightseeing in December freezing weather. Everything was clean, well maintained, and very relaxing. The staff were consistently professional, polite, and helpful, and housekeeping did a great job keeping the room spotless throughout the stay. Location-wise, it’s hard to beat. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, cafés, convenience stores, and is very close to public transportation. Kumamoto Castle is within walking distance, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing without needing taxis or long transit rides. Overall, this hotel delivers comfort and convenience for affordable price that travelers truly appreciate. There's a parking lot next to hotel, but it's more expansive then others next to it... On the other hand it has a higher availability since it's only reserved to hotel guests. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kumamoto.

Candeo Kumamoto is right at the start of the shopping arcade. That means it's great for shopping and just exploring in general. However that also means it's slightly further away from the train station where the tram ride takes at least 15 minutes. The onsen is decent and the crowd status can be checked from your room's TV. They also have on-site laundry services. Overall, I thought the amenities were fantastic. The room size is a bit small but overall great value for money.

We were really looking forward to our stay at this hotel. At check-in, we were genuinely impressed by the front desk staff, who were attentive, friendly, and very helpful. The room itself also looked decent at first glance. However, our experience quickly took a turn for the worse. When we used the self-service laundry, I was shocked to see thick mould surrounding the washing machine after removing our clothes. It was utterly disgusting and made me feel as though our clothes had been washed in a mould-infested machine. The dryer was also in very poor condition, with visible rust and dirt, and appeared badly maintained. To make matters worse, upon returning to the room and washing my hands, I noticed that the basin was extremely dirty, with obvious yellow stains (as shown in the photos). This raised serious concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene standards of the hotel. As we are staying here for the next four nights, this has made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, my impression of the hotel’s cleanliness changed immediately, and I now find myself counting the days until check-out. I would also like to sincerely compliment Ms. Moe H from the front desk for her professionalism and empathy when I raised concerns about the mould-infested washing machine. She listened attentively and kept apologising, even though I understand that the issue was not within her control. Her attitude and customer service were commendable. That said, hotel management should seriously look into this matter, as the cleanliness and maintenance of the laundry facilities fall well below acceptable standards and negatively impact the guest experience.

The hotel itself is okay - good location, decent size rooms for Japan. But that’s where it ends. The service provided by the staff is lacking. There was an issue with the luggage forwarding service they offer - a mistake they admitted they themselves did. And no solution or compensation was made. They admitted to the mistake and nothing else. More than that - their answers kept changing, and promises were changed with each response. They assured us they will contact us with information by a certain point of time but failed to actually do so until I contacted them via email. They’ve been entirely unhelpful and considering the fact they’re a chain hotels here in Tokyo I would have expected a higher degree of professionalism and service provided. Their only “compensation” over the fact our luggage might not arrive on time for our flight back home from Tokyo is free breakfast in our next visit. Will not be returning.

We had a wonderful stay at Candeo Hotels Kumamoto Shinshigai. The location is perfect — just steps away from the shopping arcade, restaurants, and convenience stores, making it very easy to explore the city on foot. The Sky Spa on the 12th floor was fantastic, offering a relaxing soak with a nice city view after a full day of sightseeing. The facilities are modern, spotless, and well-maintained, from the lobby to the guest rooms. Overall, it’s a great hotel for families or couples visiting Kumamoto — convenient, comfortable, and very clean. Would definitely stay again!
