奥道後 壱湯の守

The room is clean and spacious; however, the room interior is slightly dated. The public got spring facility is awesome. The mountain and creek view is priceless, even we came in summer.

In the restaurant ms. Okamoto San gave us great service which was the best part of our entire trip to Dogo! Thank you so much for the great care during our anniversary dinner. We will never forget and the food and sake was so good. Manager please recognize her service! Also front desk lady was very sweet - we felt the retro vibe of the hotel which was very cool- leaves were beautiful and half turned but I’m sure December 1-2 will be the best for red leaves.

Matsumaya Okudog Ichiyo no Mori: We took two rooms for 2 nights attracted by the location out of town (about 5 km) and the outdoor onsen facing the river. We enjoyed the natural setting with a view of the forest hill and the river. The hotel dates back to the 60s and kept the same decor. The food is a buffet and the dining room feels like a cafeteria. The second evening the staff kindly referred to an excellent Japanese restaurant about 20 minutes drive away, and we lost one hotel dinner (out of 3) already prepaid. The hotel staff is most welcoming.

The rooms were a bit small, but was that view crazy! It’s a bit dated, I can’t lie. The buffet dinner was good, not the best but it was not bad. It’s also a little out of the way, which I can respect since the view is great fr every angle. It’s quiet and serene. It’s supposed to be more beautiful in the fall but here is a photo of the forest in the summer!

The hotel looks shabby and out of the way, but the staff are kind and everything is put right once you see the onsen. The baths are modern, but have a lovely old feel. Open air and with a variety of types it's a real pleasure. You can look at the valley and enjoy the pools in a relaxing atmosphere. Worth visiting even if just for a day.
